“Those who think they have no time for healthy eating will sooner or later have to find time for illness.”        -Edward Stanley

When it comes to eating healthy, meal planning is one of the easiest things you can do to set yourself up for success.  As a nutritionist, my role is to help my clients create meal plans. This is a much-needed life skill that will help you improve your health for the long run.
When we don’t plan what to eat we end up making reactive and spontaneous food choices.  When you add meal planning into your lifestyle you will build a habit of eating a well-balanced, nutritious, real food diet that will lead to a healthy you.

Developing a solid meal planning routine can:

  • Reduce your shopping to only once a week.
  • Save several hours a week of food prep time.
  • When you are planning your meals, you can shop the sales and only purchase what you need.  That saves money and reduces food waste.  Check out my blog for more tips on limiting food waste and saving money.
  • Planning also helps reduce stress and is the most efficient way to shop.
  • Can help with weight control by deciding ahead of time the ingredients and portions served.
  • Create a more nutritionally balanced diet.
Here are some savvy tips to get you started
  • Plan your meals out for the week ahead of time.
  • Make a grocery list of what you will need.  Make sure you shop your freezer and pantry first to avoid buy what you already have.
  • Make freezer meals ahead of time.
    • Simple main dish proteins like meatloaf, burgers, curry chicken, teriyaki beef can all be frozen and used later for fast meals.
  • Invest in couple of kitchen gadgets to help you out.  My favorites are:
    • Electric Pressure Cooker – I use the Instant Pot
    • Slow Cooker
  • Prepare staple foods in bulk
    •  Roast up a batch of veggies.  Cook up a batch of quinoa, oatmeal or rice. Hard-boil eggs.
  • Prepare snacks ahead of time.
